Without a doubt, social media platforms have push the brethren away from the Lord. The amount of hours that the general public spends in social media is alarming. Be aware: you are the product of this transaction. The whole point is for you to be connected so that much advertising is directed at you.
Idolatry! I am from the position that selfies, when taken constantly, for the purpose of simply sharing and feeling, “Look how great I look” is a modern form of narcissism or the love of the self. To complicate this dynamic, smartphones themselves when used for social purposes are also elements of idolatry.
Question? How many hours a day do you use your smartphone? How many hours a day do you read the Bible? Another: Of the many hours that you spend with your smartphone each day, how many of those hours are dedicated to God?
I bet that the answer to the former is very few if any hours. You are being used! Do you hear me? A prominent computer scientists once said that the act of shifting your behavior in order to persuade your attention is technically the product … ladies and gents, this is a sinister world that is data driven, I must add.
Remember Matthew 10:16, “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” There are tons of modern day thiefs looking to steal your attention away from the Lord’s work. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10.
Wake up. Say yes to advancing the word of God. Say no to being dominated by a crowd that is only interested in getting advertising dollars from you without giving you any compensation.
Be well. That the Lord be with you, always.
