Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9). “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6). “I call on the LORD in my distress, and he answers me” (Psalm 120:1).
When I was a PhD student at Penn State University, I prayed to God to work in a Christian University where I would have the opportunity to teach communication classes and coach golf. The good God back then lead me and my family to Waynesburg University where I served as an Assistant Professor of Communication and Head Golf Coach. I asked, God head and the rest in history. Then I asked God, “Please God take us to a larger university so I can teach graduate students and get tenure…” Two years later, the Lord took me and my family to Indiana University of Pennsylvania where I taught graduate students and received a letter of tenure.I asked, God head and the rest in history. Then, my wife wanted to come south; I wanted to be closer to my parents; I prayed, “God, please take our family to the south where is warm and closer to Atlanta, GA.” I asked, God head and the rest in history. Now, I prayed, “I think it is time for our family to leave a research university and go back to a Christian school with a teaching focus where I could potentially study God’s word to one day, perhaps, become a pastor.” In a few days, we are heading to one of the most outstanding Christian universities in the United States! Lee University. I asked, God head and the rest in history.
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1 John 5:14); “And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him” (1 John 5:15). “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24); “I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.” (Psalm 17:6).
If you decide to love God, He will lead your steps towards His glorification. The ride, my friends, is a gift.
